Decomposed Body Of Missing Niger State Islamiyya Teacher Found In Uncompleted Building
Yakubu, a father of seven who ran an Islamiyya school in the Barikin-Saleh area of the state, had been reported missing on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
The decomposed body of a Niger State Islamiyya teacher, identified as Mallam Awwal Yakubu, was discovered on Sunday in an uncompleted building at the Talba Housing Estate in the state capital, Minna.
Yakubu, a father of seven who ran an Islamiyya school in the Barikin-Saleh area of the state, had been reported missing on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
His remains were discovered four days later, with parts of his body burnt, while eyewitnesses said his private parts were charred, and a pack of matches was found beside the corpse, according to Daily Trust.
A community leader, Mallam Mahmud Dalhatu Iya, reportedly confirmed that the deceased’s family had identified and already buried the body according to Islamic rites.
“My attention was drawn to a decomposed body in an uncompleted building in our estate. We reported the matter to the police,” Iya was quoted as saying.
“We were there when someone came and said he was the deceased’s friend, explaining that he had been missing since Thursday. His remains have been prepared for burial as I speak to you.”
The Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, also confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said, “Today, 7th December 2025, at about 10 a.m., a report was received that a corpse was found behind Talba Estate, Bida Road, Kpakungu.
“Police operatives of Kpakungu Division moved to the scene and found a decomposed body in an uncompleted building, which was later identified by relatives as Auwal Yakubu, 45, residing in the same area.”
Abiodun added, “The body was suspected to have been dumped at the location, as the deceased had been reported missing since 4th December until his body was found this morning.
“The corpse was evacuated to the hospital, and an investigation to unravel the cause of death has commenced.”
However, the police have not yet disclosed possible motives or suspects, but the community has been left in shock over the gruesome discovery. Authorities say investigations are ongoing.
