Crisis Rocks Edo APC Primaries As Chairman Defies National Secretariat, Closes Form Submission
According to the aspirants, while speaking to journalists, the state chairman defied the orders from the National Secretariat and conducted the affairs of the party on his own terms and conditions.
Some of the aspirants for the House of Assembly members in Edo state under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the primaries for the 2027 election have cried out and condemned the activities of the state chairman of the party, Mr Emperor Jarret.
According to the aspirants, while speaking to journalists, the state chairman defied the orders from the National Secretariat and conducted the affairs of the party on his own terms and conditions.
One of the aspirants said, “According to the schedule of activities and timetable for the conduct of the 2027 general elections of the All Progressives Congress, APC, sales and collection of nomination forms for State Houses of Assembly was supposed to start on the 25th of April to 2nd of May, 2026.
“Then submission of the form was supposed to start from the 2nd to 4th of May, 2026. May 1, was a public holiday, therefore, the National Secretariat found it in their wisdom to extend the submission of form from the 4th of May to the 5th of May.
“In Edo State APC, they refused to sell forms to all the State House of Assembly aspirants. It is only those who have been endorsed by the governor that have access to purchase the form. Eventually, they started seeking the form on Friday, May 1, then, on Saturday, they said sales and submission of nomination forms have closed.”
“The form that they started selling on May 1 instead of April 25, they said sales and submission have closed on May 2,” another aspirant said.
“Later they said they extended the submission to May 5. But do you know that as we speak, Edo State Chairman of APC, Emperor Jarret, instructed that the National Officer that was sent to handle the sales and collection of forms should close the Secretariat and leave on Sunday. They got a chartered flight for her and left on Sunday, May 3.
“The submission of form is supposed to close midnight of May 4. The National Secretariat has further graciously extended the submission of form to May 7.
“We do not know where the party chairman is operating from because he could not be found in the Secretariat. As we speak, nobody knows his whereabout. We are just being tossed from one place to the other. The whole, process has become a dirty affair, you must know someone to assist you before you can get things done.”
The APC, for the second time, extended the sale and submission of aspirants’ expression of interest and nomination
forms.
The National Publicity Secretary of APC, Felix Morka, had disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.
Going by the new extension, sale of forms now ends on Wednesday while the deadline for submission is Thursday.
