Court Sentences Two Individuals To 40 Years Jail For Production, Distribution Of Fake Beverages
Investigators found that the products were unwholesome, misleadingly packaged, and unsafe for human consumption.
The Federal High Court in Lagos State has convicted and sentenced two individuals, 58-year-old Otuorimuno Nelson Aziakpono, and 28-year-old Ikegwuonu Davidson Ikechukwu, to a combined 40 years’ imprisonment.
This is for offences involving the production, possession, sale, and distribution of adulterated and unregistered alcoholic beverages in Lagos State.
Aziakpono and Ikechukwu were convicted following an enforcement operation carried out on December 3, 2025, at Kojo Street, Ijanikin, and Vespa Market, where the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said its officers uncovered large quantities of counterfeit alcoholic products.
According to NAFDAC, items recovered during the operation included fake and unregistered variants of popular alcoholic brands such as Hennessy, Jameson Irish Whiskey, William Lawson’s, and Gordon’s Gin.
Investigators found that the products were unwholesome, misleadingly packaged, and unsafe for human consumption.

The convicts were arraigned on eight counts bordering on possession of unwholesome products, as well as the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit beverages and other related offences under relevant laws.
The court subsequently found both men guilty and imposed prison sentences totaling 40 years.
Reacting to the judgment, NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and curbing the circulation of adulterated consumables across the country.
The agency warned consumers about the serious health risks associated with fake alcoholic products and pledged to intensify enforcement operations nationwide.
NAFDAC also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious products or activities to the nearest agency office as part of efforts to combat the distribution of counterfeit goods.
