Confusion in PDP as suspended members emerge NWC leaders

Fresh confusion has engulfed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the emergence of some allegedly expelled members as part of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oba Maduabuchi, raised concerns over what he described as contradictions in recent court rulings affecting the party’s leadership structure, during an appearance on Arise News on Monday.

Maduabuchi noted that the Court of Appeal had earlier upheld the expulsion of members linked to the pro-Nyesom Wike faction.

However, he said the same individuals were subsequently elected into the NWC under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed.

According to him, the situation creates a legal inconsistency that could undermine the legitimacy of the party’s leadership.

“The Court of Appeal backed the expulsion of members of the Pro-Wike faction, yet the same people were elected as members of the national working committee yesterday from the same party from which they’ve been expelled,” he argued.

The legal expert also questioned the coherence of the judgement delivered by Justice Omotoso, describing it as contradictory and capable of deepening the crisis within the opposition party.

“Justice Omotoso’s judgement is contradictory; you can’t say the Pro-Wike faction was rightly expelled from the party and then affirm Abdulrahman Mohammed Led administration as authentic,” he added.

He warned that without a clear and definitive pronouncement from the Supreme Court, the PDP may struggle to resolve its internal disputes and make meaningful political progress.
