Comedian “Governor Amuneke” Rejects INEC Deal Over Free Speech Concerns

Comedian, 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗸𝗲 has 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗖 𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 worth millions of Naira because he was told that he can sing praises for INEC and can’t criticize the body if he accepts the appointment.

Nigerian satirist and digital creator Kevin Chinedu, widely known for his comedic persona “Governor Amuneke,” has turned down an offer to serve as a Youth Ambassador for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The rejection, announced on Monday, May 4, 2026, was driven by Chinedu’s concerns over creative freedom and his ability to remain a critical voice in Nigerian politics.

While seeking clarity on the role, Chinedu was informed that although he could promote civic duties like voter registration, he would be prohibited from directly criticising INEC.

He emphasized that his content reflects the “lived experiences of ordinary Nigerians” and that he felt a responsibility to avoid compromising his message for official recognition.
