Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has called Brigadier‑General Musa Uba a martyr after his death and said the Boko Haram insurgency is a proxy war backed by unnamed international interests. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Gumi argued that the insurgency thrives because many uneducated, unemployed youths are recruited and exploited by the state’s enemies. He urged Nigeria to focus on severing alleged foreign support for the group rather than trying to prove its commitment to foreign powers ¹.

We should not rush to prove to Trump that we are fighting them; instead, we must cut off their supplies and foreign sponsors. We are not fighting a ragtag army but people supported by outsiders who threaten us with false claims. If they truly want to assist us, it is not through contemptuous threats and blackmail. His martyrdom proves that Muslims are actively engaged in the fight against extremists. May Allah accept his shahadah and protect us from evil.”_
