BBNaija Experience Forced Me To Seek Therapy – Erica
Former Big Brother Naija housemate Erica Nlewedim has opened up about the emotional challenges she experienced during and after the reality show, describing the impact of the experience on her mental well-being.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Toke Makinwa, the actress and entrepreneur said she would not participate in a reality show similar to BBNaija again, despite acknowledging the financial benefits and career opportunities the programme brought her.
“I’ll never go to a show like Big Brother Naija again in my life. I’m happy I did it because, of course, it changed my life money-wise, but I’m never doing it again if I’m given the opportunity. I was getting like 3 years of back-to-back insults. I had to see a therapist because of that show,” she said.
Erica, who participated in the 2020 BBNaija Lockdown edition, said the criticism and insults she faced online after leaving the show continued for years and had a lasting effect on her.
She revealed that the experience eventually led her to seek professional support in 2024 as she struggled to cope with its emotional impact.
Despite the difficulties, Erica acknowledged that BBNaija played a significant role in transforming her career and public profile.
Since leaving the reality show, she has established herself in the entertainment industry, featuring in several Nollywood productions and securing endorsement deals with Nigerian brands.
She has also expanded her interests into entrepreneurship, including the launch of her own skincare business.
BBNaija remains one of Africa’s most popular reality television programmes, with the show frequently providing contestants with a platform for greater visibility, entertainment careers and business opportunities.
