Bauchi Governor Denies Plot To Join PDP As Jonathan’s Running Mate, Reaffirms APM Senate Ambition

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has dismissed reports suggesting that he plans to leave the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s running mate.

The governor made the clarification in a post on X on Sunday while reacting to a social media post alleging that he was considering a return to the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor stated that his political focus remains on contesting the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the APM.
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” Mohammed wrote.
He urged the public to disregard reports suggesting otherwise.
“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” he said.
Mohammed’s reaction followed an earlier post on X by Hon. Nuhu Sada, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the Kaduna State House of Assembly, representing Zaria Kewaye Constituency in the 2025 by-election.
Sada had claimed that the Bauchi governor might be on the verge of leaving the APM for the PDP and could emerge as a vice-presidential candidate in the next election cycle.

On Saturday, SaharaReporters reported that a faction of the opposition PDP led by Tanimu Turaki defied a police blockade and demolition threats from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to formally affirm former President Jonathan as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was contained in a communiqué issued on May 30, 2026, by the National Publicity Secretary of the party’s Interim National Working Committee (I-NWC), Comrade Ini Ememobong.
According to the faction, despite more than 20 truckloads of armed policemen shutting down all access roads to the A-Class Event Centre in Abuja and Wike’s threat to revoke the property’s Certificate of Occupancy, the party’s core organs convened an emergency session at an undisclosed location to execute what it described as a political coup.
The PDP explained that statutory notices had already been served to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and federal security agencies weeks before the Special National Convention.
It added that the venue had been fully paid for and preparatory teams had secured access prior to the disruption.
