Babachir Lawal Accuses NDC Guber Candidates Of Working Against Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket, Says They Are Moles Planted To Sabotage Victory
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir David Lawal, has accused six governorship candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in the North-East of working against the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Lawal, in a press release on Monday, said the candidates who rejected his appointment as Leader of the party in the North-East and North-Central are “wolves in sheep skin” and “moles” planted by rival parties to sabotage the certain victory of the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket.
“My attention has been drawn to a trending story on social media to the effect that six so-called gubernatorial candidates of the NDC are protesting my joining the party and my appointment as the Leader of the Party in the North Eastern Zone,” Lawal said.
“The Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket has a very massive unassailable lead in the North East and North Central zones of Nigeria and it is to be expected that rival parties would plant moles into NDC at levels as high as the gubernatorial candidates level to sabotage this certain victory. I suspect this is what is now playing out in this desperation of some of these wolves in sheep skin in the NDC in the North East.”
The former SGF alleged that his joining the NDC at this stage poses a major threat to those working for Atiku Abubakar from within the NDC as “subversives of the Peter/Kwankwaso ticket.”
“I know that my joining the NDC at this stage poses a major threat to those working for Atiku from within the NDC as subversives of the Peter/Kwankwaso ticket. Thanks to God they have now of their own free will exposed themselves and the voters in the North East have taken note,” he said.
Lawal said the charade is being led and organized by a “female pretender to the governorship candidacy of Adamawa State” — Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani) — and claimed that two of the signatories, Prof. Mohammed Sani Yahaya of Taraba and Dr Babayo Ardo of Gombe, have reached out to him to dissociate themselves, saying their names and signatures were inserted without their authority.
He said the appointment was made by the national leadership without his request, and he accepted in good faith out of respect for Senator Seriake Dickson, Peter Obi and Kwankwaso.
Lawal urged NDC members in the North-East to ignore the antics of “fifth columnists” and focus on victory, saying the Obi/Kwankwaso movement is a deep-rooted grassroots movement that is unassailable.
On September 27, six NDC guber candidates — Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed of Adamawa, Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim of Bauchi, Rear Admiral S. Kashim Ibrahim (rtd) of Borno, Babayo Ardo of Gombe, Prof. Mohammed Sani of Taraba and Ibrahim M. Shitu of Yobe — in a joint statement said:
“For the avoidance of doubt, our position is collective, firm and final: we do not recognise Engr. Babachir Lawal as the Leader of the NDC in the North-East, and we will not recognise him as such.”
They said the appointment was made without consultation with those building the party structures at the grassroots.
