Body of missing 12-year-old boy recovered from river in North Yorkshire
The search for a 12-year-old boy who went missing while swimming in the River Swale, North Yorkshire, ended in tragedy on Saturday night after his body was recovered by rescue teams.
The youngster was reported missing around 5 p.m. on Friday after he entered the water at Richmond Falls, a popular beauty spot, and failed to resurface. Emergency services, including North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, Mountain Rescue, and police teams, launched an extensive search of the area, with helicopters and an air ambulance also deployed.
Despite frantic efforts that stretched late into the evening, the boy’s body was discovered at about 10:45 p.m. and later pulled from the river. His family, who had been anxiously waiting for news, have been informed and are now receiving support from specially trained officers.
Authorities confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious. “Following further searches of the river, sadly, search teams recovered a child’s body from the water,” North Yorkshire Police said in a statement.
The incident has cast a shadow over the local community, with residents and visitors at the beauty spot left shaken by the heartbreaking outcome.
