AUnited States-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C, acting on behalf of former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has issued a statement condemning the attempted assassination of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The statement, released on Monday via the firm’s verified X (formerly Twitter) account, conveyed Atiku’s message to Trump, denouncing political violence and calling for adherence to democratic principles.

“We are posting former Nigerian Vice President @atiku message to President @realDonaldTrump which we passed on earlier today,” the firm stated.

In the message addressed directly to Trump, Atiku strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a threat not only to an individual but to democracy itself.

“I strongly condemn the attempted assassination against you and any act of violence directed at public officials. Such actions are not only an attack on an individual, but on the very foundation of democracy itself,” he said.

The former vice president stressed that political disagreements must never devolve into violence, urging respect for the rule of law and democratic institutions.

“The rule of law, respect for institutions, and the will of the people must always prevail over fear and force,” he added.

Atiku also extended his sympathies to Trump, his family, and others affected by the incident, while commending security personnel for their swift intervention.

“My thoughts are with you, your beautiful family, and all those affected. I also commend the security personnel whose swift and decisive response helped prevent further harm,” he said.

He noted the need for unity and a firm commitment to democratic values and the sanctity of human life.

“This moment underscores the need for strength, unity, and an unwavering commitment to defend democratic values and the sanctity of human life. May Almighty God bless and protect you, your family, and the great American people,” the statement added.

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, gunfire erupted at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., attended by President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance.
