Atiku Says Nigerian Vice President Shettima “Doesn’t Have Manners” For Questioning His Political Records
Atiku made the remark during an interview on GTA Hausa, where he was asked to react to Shettima’s criticisms over his record in office and contributions to the North-East during his tenure as vice president.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed a challenge from Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, saying he would not respond because the APC vice presidential candidate “doesn’t have manners”.
Atiku made the remark during an interview on GTA Hausa, where he was asked to react to Shettima’s criticisms over his record in office and contributions to the North-East during his tenure as vice president.
Shettima had earlier challenged Atiku at a campaign rally in Potiskum, Yobe State, accusing him of failing to deliver meaningful projects or empowerment to his region while in office.
He said, “You cannot vote for someone that did eight years as Vice President without doing eight projects in his place. You cannot vote for someone that did eight years as Vice President without empowering eight people”.
The APC vice presidential candidate also made claims about Atiku’s associates, stating, “Abdullahi Nyako of Adamawa, died in a rented house; Fariya died in anger. Atiku has no close associate in Gombe State than Baba Wuro Barambu but he died indebted, what sort of brotherhood or associate is this?” Shettima queried.
Reacting, Atiku said, “I will not respond to Kashim Shettima because he doesn’t have manners.
“First I’m not his mate, secondly I have more experience in governance than him and thirdly it is not our culture in northern Nigeria to disrespect elder, or accused an elder unnecessarily.”
He added, “It is not in our blood in North, therefore I will not respond to him.”
Meanwhile, other APC leaders at the rally also backed Shettima’s position, with former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan saying, “We will prove our worth with huge votes that would deliver the state to our great party.
“We will ensure the victory of the Asiwaju/Shettima ticket with massive votes from Yobe State.”
The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, also said the large turnout at the Potiskum rally showed growing support for the APC and confidence in a landslide victory in the forthcoming elections.
