Atiku Meets EU Ambassador, Discusses Nigeria’s 2027 Elections and Bilateral Cooperation

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has disclosed that his meeting with the Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, focused on Nigeria’s 2027 general elections and broader issues of mutual interest between Nigeria and the European Union.

In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, Atiku said he received Ambassador Mignot at his residence in Abuja, where both sides held discussions on Nigeria’s democratic process, governance and areas of continued cooperation with the European Union.

According to the former vice president, the meeting placed particular emphasis on preparations for the 2027 general elections, which are expected to shape Nigeria’s political landscape.

Atiku expressed appreciation to the European Union for its sustained commitment to supporting free, fair, peaceful and credible elections in Nigeria, while also acknowledging the bloc’s contributions toward strengthening the country’s economy.

“This afternoon, I had the honour of hosting His Excellency Ambassador Gautier Mignot, Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, at my residence in Abuja,” Atiku wrote.

“We engaged in productive discussions on issues of mutual interest between Nigeria and the EU, with particular emphasis on the upcoming general elections.”

He added that he thanked the ambassador for the visit and commended the European Union’s continued partnership in promoting democratic governance and economic development in Nigeria.

The meeting comes amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and key stakeholders intensifying consultations and engagement with both domestic and international partners.
