APC Picks woman as Lagos Deputy Governorship Candidate
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly selected Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate for the forthcoming Lagos State governorship election, setting the stage for a high-profile contest in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
According to an exclusive report by Western Post, credible sources within the ruling party confirmed that Sonayon-James will run alongside the incumbent Deputy Governor, Dr. Femi Hamzat, who recently emerged as the APC’s governorship candidate ahead of the election.
Her emergence is being viewed as a strategic move by the party to deepen its grassroots support and strengthen its political base across key areas of Lagos State, particularly the Badagry Division, where she enjoys considerable influence and widespread acceptance.Politics
A seasoned grassroots politician, Sonayon-James currently serves as the Assistant State Woman Leader of the APC in Lagos State. She has earned recognition for her active involvement in community development, political mobilisation, and advocacy for inclusive governance.
Beyond politics, she is an accomplished Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) expert and Sustainability Risk Consultant, with extensive experience in public service, policy implementation, and community development initiatives.
The APC stalwart hails from the royal family of Kweme Kingdom in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), a background that has further strengthened her ties with local communities and traditional institutions across the division.
Her public service record includes serving as Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West LCDA, where she played significant roles in grassroots administration and social intervention programmes.
Political analysts have described her nomination as a major boost for women’s participation in politics, noting that it reflects the growing influence of female leaders within the APC and the broader political landscape of Lagos State.Politics
