Angry youths force APC Chairman to flee as primaries end in chaos
Chaos erupted at the All Progressives Congress, APC, primaries in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Saturday as angry youths confronted the local party chairman, Bashir Jibrin Jaji, forcing him into a waiting vehicle amid widespread accusations of electoral manipulation.
The incident, captured in a video circulating on social media, underscores deepening frustrations within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It highlights recurring allegations of imposed candidates, lack of transparency, and internal discord that have plagued APC processes in several states.
The House of Representatives primary for Igabi Federal Constituency pitted Sani Abdulkadir Dakaci against Hussaini Jalo.
According to multiple eyewitnesses and party supporters who spoke to journalists, the exercise deviated sharply from expected democratic norms.
Supporters claimed that despite queuing from as early as 6.00am at designated collection centres such as LEA Birnin Yero in Kwarau Ward, no proper accreditation or vote counting occurred. Instead, party officials allegedly announced Jalo as the winner abruptly from the APC office in Rigachikun.
“We lined up but nobody counted us. Suddenly, they came out and announced that Jalo had won the election. That is not democracy because no election was conducted,” said Musa Salihu, a party member present at the scene.
Another supporter, Musbahu Idris, echoed the sentiment: “People had been waiting there since 6.00am expecting accreditation and counting to begin… We were surprised to hear that Jalo had been declared winner. No election took place because we were never told voting would happen at the party office.”
The youths, reportedly mobilised from various wards in the constituency, stormed the APC office in Rigachikun to confront Chairman Bashir Jibrin Jaji and other officials. Tensions boiled over into physical confrontation.
Video footage shows the visibly distressed chairman being ushered or forced into a waiting vehicle as the crowd surged.
Supporters of the chairman described the scene as an assault. Haruna Sani, who defended the process, stated: “The youths alleged injustice, but that is not the case. We tried to prevent them from attacking the party chairman when they came to the office, but they overpowered us and assaulted him before taking him away in a vehicle.”
