Anambra Police Command Confirms Arrest Of Man For Murder Of 23-Year-Old Girlfriend
The arrest, announced on Saturday, followed a report by the victim’s mother that her daughter had been missing since October 16, 2026.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Chima Ofoeke over the suspected murder of 23-year-old Mmesoma Umeorini, his lover, in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest, announced on Saturday, followed a report by the victim’s mother that her daughter had been missing since October 16, 2026.
The police said the mother had reported the disappearance to the Divisional Police Officer of Umuchu Division after efforts to establish her daughter’s whereabouts proved unsuccessful.
According to the command, operatives, acting on intelligence, collaborated with members of the Agunechemba security outfit in Uga to arrest the suspect, who was identified as the deceased’s alleged former boyfriend.
The police said the suspect allegedly confessed during preliminary interrogation to killing the woman following the breakdown of their relationship.
He reportedly led detectives to the location where the victim’s remains were discovered and recovered.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, October 24.
Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for a comprehensive investigation.
The police said the investigation was aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that justice was served.
The command also urged members of the public to report missing persons and suspicious activities promptly to the appropriate authorities.
It added that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progressed.
The arrest comes amid continuing concerns over violence against women and the need for timely reporting and investigation of missing-person cases.
The suspect’s alleged confession and the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death would be further examined by the court.
