AN ODE TO FEMI ADEKANBI: A SALUTE TO HIS LEGACY

Temidayo Lawrence (Konibaje)

Reflecting on the journey of an elder statesman, a prominent leader, and a grassroots mobilizer.  I call him the “Apamaku of Owo” considering the political battles he has fought in Owo Kingdom.

Femi Adekanbi is a leader who sweated his way to the top. Even in the midst of chaos, he managed to thrived. His journey mirror that of Joseph the dreamer: one who envisioned kingship, was pushed aside by his own, yet became exactly what the Lord had ordained. That tenacity is the mark of a man destined for impact.

Through my years in the political arena, I have seen leaders extend care to others despite past vendettas. But FEMI ADEKANBI magnanimity still marvels me. From his days as a unionist to his tenure as Commissioner, even when many rejected him, he stood firm and continued to protect the interest of Owo. He never allowed previous grudges to cloud his service to the people.

He was tagged as a leader who moves with thugs. But one must ask: how does a politician survive without loyal supporters? Power is not served à la carte. What matters is how that influence is being actualized and Adekanbi has continuously used his to pave ways for others.

Beyond the noise and politics, Femi Adekanbi embodies loyalty to his roots. He has not forgotten Owo in his rise. Instead, he has carried the town’s name into higher corridors of power, reminding us that true leadership is measured by how many you lift as you climb.

Today, he made into national politics without leaning on any single power broker in his community. He has surpassed the expectations of men and found favor in God’s sight. That is no small feat in a system where access is often traded for allegiance.

In recent times, as reported in the media, he has gainfully employed 20 sons of Owo into the Ministry and continues to encourage them. This is not just employment, it is hope, it is dignity, it is proof that representation matters when it is in the right hands.

Femi Adekanbi legacy is still being written, but one thing is clear, he has shown that perseverance, faith, and commitment to one’s people can break every barrier. He is proof that the son of the soil can rise and still remember the soil.

My salutation to you today is not only to commend you, but to urge you to keep representing us. We believe the future holds the very best for you, and may the spirit of Owo serve those who serve the land diligently.
