Alleged Banditry Links: Senator Buba’s Senior Legislative Aide Resigns, Cites Disrespect, Work Breakdown

Tilde announced his resignation in a letter dated September 6, addressed to Senator Buba, saying his resignation was effective immediately.

Abba Aliyu Tilde, the Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has resigned from his position, citing alleged disrespect, lack of communication and a breakdown in his working relationship with the senator.

Tilde announced his resignation in a letter dated September 6, addressed to Senator Buba, saying his resignation was effective immediately.

The resignation comes amid renewed controversy surrounding the senator following fresh allegations linking him to individuals allegedly associated with banditry and a reported death threat issued to social media influencer, D English Alhaji, after he published an interview containing the allegations.

However, Tilde did not state in his resignation letter that his decision was connected to the allegations against the senator or the controversy involving D English Alhaji.

In the letter, Tilde said he had served the senator with “dedication, loyalty, commitment, and sincere respect” and had made efforts to contribute to his work and responsibilities.

He, however, said he could no longer continue in an environment where he felt his efforts, presence and position were not accorded the respect he considered necessary for an effective working relationship.

“However, I have reached a point where I can no longer continue in an environment where I feel that my efforts, presence, and position are not accorded the level of respect and regard that I believe is necessary for a productive working relationship,” Tilde said.

He identified Senator Buba’s recent visit to his ward as a “particularly disappointing incident” that contributed to his decision to resign.

According to him, the senator held a meeting with residents of his ward without informing or communicating with him beforehand.

“A particularly disappointing incident was your recent visit to my ward, where a meeting was held with people from my ward without any notification or communication to me,” he said.

“Given my position and my connection to the people of the ward, I found this deeply disrespectful and hurtful. I believe that, at the very least, I deserved to be informed and carried along.”

Tilde said the incident was not isolated, alleging that he had experienced other situations in which he felt ignored despite his continued efforts in the service of the senator.

“This incident, together with other experiences where I have felt ignored despite my continued efforts, has made me realise that it is no longer possible for me to continue working effectively under these circumstances,” he said.

“I cannot continue in a position where I feel that there is little regard for my contributions or for the relationship between us.”

The aide said political and public service relationships should be built around mutual respect, communication, trust and recognition of each person’s role.

“I have always believed that any working relationship, particularly one involving political and public service, must be built on mutual respect, communication, trust, and recognition of one another’s roles,” Tilde said.

Resignation letter

“Unfortunately, I no longer feel that these principles exist in our working relationship.”

He described his resignation as “the most honourable decision” available to him, adding that he was leaving with a clear conscience.

“I leave the position with a clear conscience, knowing that I have given my best and made every effort to discharge my responsibilities faithfully,” he said.

Tilde’s resignation comes as Senator Buba faces renewed public scrutiny over allegations aired in an interview published by social media influencer D English Alhaji.

In the interview, a Nigerian identified as Hassan named Senator Buba as the politician he had previously accused of having links to banditry and the alleged training of criminal elements.

D English Alhaji had repeatedly asked Hassan to identify the senator he had previously referred to without naming.

“Today, I think it is high time you tell us the name of the senator that you are accusing of sponsoring banditry and everything you have said to us. Please, start with the name of the senator,” the influencer said.

Hassan subsequently identified the politician as Senator Shehu Buba Umar of Bauchi South.

“My name is Hassan. Remember, I told you I am the citizen of Nigeria. I was born in Nigeria. So, today, we are going to talk about the allegation I am claiming against Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who is representing Bauchi South,” Hassan said.

Hassan, however, cautioned that his claims should not simply be accepted without scrutiny, urging Nigerians and authorities to examine what he described as evidence.

“I’m not saying whatever I believe. No. You have to judge by yourself. And they don’t want to hear from me alone. We want to hear from them,” he said.

Hassan alleged that some of the individuals involved in the information he had gathered were associated with notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide.

He mentioned individuals identified as Baba Ngida and Adam, alleging that they were brought to Abuja for training in drone operations and professional sniping.

Hassan further alleged that Adam had served as an aide to Senator Buba at the National Assembly.

“Adam, he’s the PA of Senator Shehu Buba. He’s the PA in National Assembly at that time. I don’t know now,” he alleged.

He also claimed to have communicated with Baba Ngida and obtained voice recordings from conversations involving Ngida and Adam.

Hassan further alleged that Baba Ngida had shown him photographs of military night-vision equipment.

The interview also contained claims that Hassan contacted officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) over the allegations but that some officials were allegedly reluctant to intervene because of the political influence of those allegedly involved.

Hassan claimed an official told him that the person he was referring to was powerful.

“He said to me, Hassan, we can’t do anything in this matter because this person is powerful. We know him. We know his work,” he alleged.
