ADC Party Lambasts APC For Parading ‘Fake’ Defectors From North, Says Candidates Not Its Members
The opposition party insisted that the individuals paraded by the APC were neither ADC candidates nor leaders of the party.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of fabricating the identities and credentials of individuals it recently presented as defecting ADC House of Assembly candidates from Jigawa, Plateau, Taraba and Zamfara States.
The ADC, in a statement issued on Monday, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, described the APC’s claim as “wishful thinking” and “a figment of the APC’s imagination.”
The opposition party insisted that the individuals paraded by the APC were neither ADC candidates nor leaders of the party.
“The APC cannot assemble random individuals at its secretariat, confer imaginary ADC credentials on them and then announce their defection,” Abdullahi stated.
“While the APC Chairman is welcome to receive visitors, he should stop introducing them to Nigerians as people they are not. These people are not our candidates.”
The ADC statement came after the APC announced that former ADC House of Assembly candidates from four northern states had joined the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that the APC said former ADC candidates from Jigawa, Plateau, Taraba and Zamfara states had defected to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former ADC House of Assembly candidates, led by Princess Aslam Aliyu, also known as Gimbiyar Kauran Namoda, formally submitted their resignation letters to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
The resignation letters were presented to Yilwatda at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday.
However, the ADC has rejected the identities and political credentials attributed to the alleged defectors by the APC.
The opposition party challenged the APC to substantiate the positions and credentials it claimed the individuals held within the ADC.
“The APC should state the ADC offices these individuals supposedly held, the constituencies they represented as our candidates and when they held those positions,” the ADC said.
The party added that the APC could receive visitors at its secretariat but should not present people to Nigerians as ADC candidates or leaders if they did not hold such positions.
The ADC also mocked the APC’s claim that the alleged defectors were attracted to the ruling party because of what it described as the administration’s “remarkable transformation” of Northern Nigeria.
“Having invented ADC credentials for its guests, the APC has supplied an equally imaginative account of its performance over the past few years,” Abdullahi stated.
“The APC should explain how these fake photo-ops bring down food prices, protect Nigeria’s communities or help struggling families pay their bills.
“Nigerians are asking for evidence of better lives; the APC is manufacturing photographs and congratulating itself.”
The ADC further dismissed the APC’s presentation of the alleged defectors, describing the exercise as unnecessary and accusing the ruling party of creating what it called a fictional narrative around the individuals.
“The APC should enjoy its photographs and spare Nigerians this unnecessary fiction,” the party said.
