ADC elects Former Deputy Governor as Chairman
A former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, John Michael-Abdul, has emerged as Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.
Michael-Abdul was elected alongside other members of the state executive, including the deputy chairman, secretary, treasurer, publicity secretary, woman leader, and zonal officials representing Nasarawa North, Nasarawa South, and Nasarawa West senatorial districts.
The election which, held on Saturday in Lafia, the state capital, was conducted through a consensus arrangement and ratified by delegates from all 13 local government areas of the state.
In his acceptance speech, the new chairman pledged to reposition the party as a credible political alternative in the state.
He said the executive would prioritise grassroots mobilisation, internal democracy, and issue-based engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He expressed optimism that the ADC could wrest power at both the state and national levels, stressing the need to build a party anchored on integrity, inclusion, and service delivery.
“Today, by your consensus and this congress, you have entrusted us with the responsibility to serve our great party for the next four years. We accept it with humility and a strong sense of duty,” he said.
Michael-Abdul added that the new leadership would unveil a comprehensive work plan within 30 days, aimed at strengthening the party across the state’s 147 electoral wards and 13 local government areas.
He also assured members that the party would become more visible and responsive to the concerns of citizens, urging stakeholders to support the new leadership in rebuilding the party.
The outgoing state chairman, Barr. Paul Magaji, thanked members for the opportunity to serve and called for continued support for the new executive.
Chairman of the congress committee, Kani Jibarang, described the exercise as peaceful and transparent, noting that all positions were filled without rancour. He subsequently returned the elected officials, who were sworn in immediately after the ratification.
The emergence of the new leadership is expected to revitalise the ADC in Nasarawa as it positions itself for the 2027 elections.
