MAN ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED N2.5M FRAUD AS POLICE RECOVER 25 ATM CARDS
Operatives of the Igbesa Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 45-year-old man, Ameachi Anthony, over an alleged N2.5 million fraud.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to Babaseyi, police recovered 25 ATM cards and several mobile phones from the suspect.
He said preliminary investigations revealed an alleged scheme involving utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards, which were reportedly used through associates to facilitate the opening of bank accounts. The ATM cards were then allegedly collected for fraudulent transactions.
Babaseyi stated that the suspect was arrested on September 22, 2026, and subsequently transferred alongside the recovered exhibits to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, for further investigation.
In a separate development on the same day, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics team arrested 34-year-old Peter Olanrewaju following information about a suspected cult-related gathering.
Further investigations reportedly led to the arrest of 36-year-old Adebayo Sodiq, while police recovered one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols.
Babaseyi said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms and identify other individuals who may be linked to the case.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing.
