Veteran Broadcaster Femi Adio Dies at 52 After Prolonged Illness
Veteran radio broadcaster Femi Adio, popularly known as Femi Adio Wonder, has died at the age of 52 after a prolonged battle with diabetes.
Adio, who devoted more than three decades to broadcasting, began his career as an independent and freelance presenter with Radio Lagos before moving to Eko FM. He later joined Paramount FM, Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he continued to build his reputation as a broadcaster.
Beyond radio, Adio ventured into film marketing and other business activities. Earlier in his life, he also worked professionally as a barber before establishing himself in the media industry.
His health challenges reportedly became more serious after a triple celebration he hosted on June 12, 2014, marking his 40th birthday, the release of his radio presentation CD titled “Femi Adio Reloaded,” and his Nikkah ceremony with his wife, Ayishat Adio.
The celebration attracted prominent personalities from the media, entertainment and political sectors. Among those who attended were Sheu Jamiu Amioloun, Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola, wife of the then Lagos State Governor, and Hon. Dayo Saka Fafunmi, among others.
Entertainment at the occasion included a performance by gospel Juju musician Mega 99, while Bashiru Adisa, popularly known as Baba Gboin, served as the anchor.
Following the deterioration of his health, Adio publicly appealed for financial assistance to support his treatment. His battle with diabetes reportedly affected both his finances and mobility, with the broadcaster said to have sold or auctioned some of his properties, including cars and houses acquired during the peak of his career, to finance medical treatment.
A native of Iwo, Osun State, Femi Adio leaves behind a broadcasting career spanning more than 30 years and memories among colleagues, listeners and members of the entertainment industry.
His death marks the loss of a broadcaster whose professional journey covered radio, entertainment and other aspects of the Nigerian media industry.
