I Needed Money to Marry’ — Suspect Confesses to Lagos Kidnap Operation
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a cross-state kidnapping syndicate accused of abducting a businesswoman in the Ijedodo area of Lagos and collecting ₦21 million ransom before her release.
The suspects were identified as Semi Buawe, 35; Oluwatomi Obosi, 37; and Bamure Telemowei. Police said they were traced to a hideout in Agadagba community, Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to police investigations, the suspects allegedly travelled from Ondo to Lagos in April 2026, abducted the woman and held her for three days before collecting the ransom.
Buawe, who admitted participating in the operation, told police he had been involved in kidnapping since 2010 but claimed he had wanted to quit.
He said he received ₦1.5 million from the ransom.
Obosi, meanwhile, said he joined the operation because he “needed money to marry as soon as possible,” adding that he received ₦2.5 million.
The alleged gang leader, identified as ID, remains at large and is suspected of being linked to kidnapping incidents across several states.
Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspects remained in custody and would be charged to court after investigations.
Police urged members of the public with information about the fleeing suspect to contact the nearest police station.
