US Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers After Missile Attack

The United States military has struck three Iranian crude oil carriers after Iran launched ballistic missiles towards two US Navy warships, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has said.
CENTCOM said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched the missiles towards an American aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer operating in regional waters.
The command said both US warships successfully evaded the attacks and no American personnel were injured.
The US strikes on the three Iranian oil carriers were carried out on Saturday, September 5, according to CENTCOM.
The command said the vessels were targeted as part of its response to the Iranian missile attacks.
US Central Command said two of the tankers were disabled, while a third vessel was destroyed.
It accused Iran of using the vessels as part of a covert operation to generate revenue for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and affiliated armed groups.
CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper said the United States would continue to impose economic costs on Iran and defend American forces in the region.
The latest strikes mark another escalation in the confrontation between Washington and Tehran, which has intensified around the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s oil exports.
Iran has repeatedly opposed the US military presence and naval blockade in the region, while Washington has accused Tehran of threatening commercial shipping and American military personnel.
The exchange comes as tensions remain high following renewed US and Iranian military operations across the Middle East.
