2027: Hunger, insecurity won’t stop Nigerians from re-electing Tinubu – Wike
According to a report by Vanguard News, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, said he could become one of the first politicians targeted if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election to either Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Wike explained that his strong and public support for President Tinubu’s re-election had placed him in a vulnerable political position.
He said his loyalty to the President had made him a major target for opposition politicians and their supporters.
The former Rivers State governor, however, said he had no regrets about his decision to support Tinubu despite the political risks involved.
According to him, he was fully aware that his position could have consequences if the opposition eventually defeats the President in 2027.
The FCT minister acknowledged that he understood the possible consequences of openly backing Tinubu but insisted that he would continue to confront those working against the President.
Wike said his attention remained firmly on ensuring that Tinubu secures another term in office, regardless of whatever political consequences he might personally face.
He also dismissed the criticisms directed at him over his support for the President, saying he had faced severe attacks and been called different names because of his political position.
