Officers of the Nigerian Police attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have reportedly arrested Uthman Olalekan, a media aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in the early hours of Friday, August 28.

SaharaReporters learnt that Olalekan was reportedly arrested at his residence in Ede, Osun State, by four officers attached to the State CID.

The circumstances surrounding the arrest remained unclear as of the time of filing this report, with the police yet to publicly disclose the reason for his arrest or the specific allegations, if any, against him.

The development comes amid heightened political tension following the recent gubernatorial election held in the state.

According to sources familiar with the development, there is uncertainty regarding the basis for the arrest.

It was also stated that the development had caused apprehension among the media circles of reelected Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“We have information that the police may be tracking media aides of the governor and it is unclear why they are doing this,” a source told SaharaReporters.

It remains unclear whether Olalekan’s detention is connected to the election or to a separate police investigation.
