Nigerian musicologists honour MFM Olukoya
The Association of Nigerian Musicologists has conferred the Chancellor of Mountain Top University, Dr Daniel Olukoya, with the award of Life Grand Patron.
The award was presented during the association’s 22nd Annual Conference, where Olukoya was recognised for his contributions to the development of music scholarship, practice and empowerment.
Representing Olukoya at the presentation was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Mountain Top University, who received the award on his behalf.
Presenting the award, a representative of the association described it as a “life-giving award,” stressing that Olukoya would remain the Life Grand Patron for life.
The representative said, “The Association of Nigerian Musicologists actually confers the award of Life Grand Patron on Dr Daniel Olukoya, the Chancellor of Mountain Top University, in recognition of your invaluable contributions to the development of music scholarship, practice and empowerment.”
The representative also highlighted Olukoya’s contribution to empowering people in the field of music, noting that several institutions had benefited from his efforts.
Reacting to the honour in a statement shared on Instagram on Tuesday, Olukoya expressed gratitude to the association, describing the recognition as a “Lifetime Award of Honour.”
He said the award was “not just a recognition of the past, but an encouragement to keep inspiring, impacting, and contributing meaningfully to the growth of music and its influence in our society.”
Olukoya added that being celebrated by musicologists and professionals in the Nigerian music community was an honour he deeply cherished.
“To God be all the glory,” he said.
