Four Family Members Linked to Terrorists Flee ISWAP Enclave, Surrender to Troops in Borno

Four members of a family with ties to terrorist elements have voluntarily surrendered to Nigerian troops after escaping from an ISWAP-controlled enclave in Borno State.

According to security sources, the individuals fled the insurgents’ hideout before presenting themselves to troops deployed in the state’s ongoing counter-insurgency operations. Their surrender is seen as another indication of the sustained military pressure being mounted against terrorist groups operating in the North-East.

The family members reportedly abandoned life within the enclave due to the increasingly difficult conditions and the continued offensives by Nigerian security forces. After escaping, they approached military personnel and surrendered without resistance.
Security officials have commenced the necessary profiling and screening procedures to determine their level of involvement with the insurgent group. Authorities are also expected to gather intelligence that could assist ongoing operations against ISWAP and other terrorist factions in the region.

The surrender comes amid renewed efforts by the Nigerian military to dismantle terrorist strongholds across Borno State and encourage individuals associated with insurgent groups to lay down their arms and embrace peace.
In recent months, intensified ground and aerial operations have led to the rescue of hostages, the recovery of weapons, and the surrender of numerous insurgents and their family members.

Military authorities have repeatedly maintained that while operations against terrorist groups will continue relentlessly, individuals who voluntarily surrender and are found not to have committed serious crimes may be processed in line with existing government deradicalisation and rehabilitation programmes.

The latest development underscores the continued impact of sustained military operations aimed at restoring peace and security in Nigeria’s North-East region.
