Troops Rescue Widow of Late Major General Rabe Abubakar in Matazu After Gun Battle
Troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have rescued Mrs Amina Abubakar, widow of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director Defence Information, following an encounter with bandits in Matazu Local Government Area, Katsina State.
This medium gathered that the rescue was carried out during a sustained search-and-rescue operation targeting bandit enclaves in the area. Troops made contact with the abductors at Tunga Village in Sayaya Ward.
Sources said the bandits shot Mrs Abubakar on the leg before abandoning her and fleeing as troops advanced. She was immediately evacuated and is receiving treatment at a military hospital, where she is said to be responding well.
Mrs Abubakar and her husband were abducted weeks earlier in an attack that claimed the life of Major General Rabe Abubakar.
Military authorities confirmed that operations to apprehend those responsible are ongoing, with intensified efforts to secure communities in Katsina and other affected states.
