Bandits hit Kwara communities in coordinated night raids

Fear has returned to parts of Kwara State after gunmen stormed three communities Thursday night, killing one person and kidnapping several others in what residents described as coordinated attacks.
The raids happened around 10 p.m. in Gaa-Oke Abba and Gaa-Alla in Isin Local Government Area, and in Famole community in Ifelodun LGA. Locals said the gunmen struck the villages almost at the same time, sending families running into nearby bushes and neighboring towns.

At least two people were taken from Gaa-Alla, residents confirmed. The number of victims from Gaa-Oke Abba remains unclear as searches and headcounts continue. Many families spent the night looking for missing relatives and have refused to return home over fears the attackers could come back.

The attack turned fatal in Famole, located along Share-Okeode Road near the Oyi River in Oke-Ode Ward II. Vigilantes and villagers tried to repel the gunmen when they invaded. A shootout followed, leaving one resident dead before the attackers withdrew. Tension is still high in the area.

Famole and other parts of Ifelodun have faced repeated security breaches in recent months. Thursday’s incident has renewed complaints from rural communities about rising cases of kidnapping and armed violence.

The Kwara State Police Command had not released an official statement on the attacks or the number of persons abducted as of press time.
