The d3ath of Russel Eraga, a 34-year-old Tax Manager at PwC Nigeria, has sparked criticism of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital over alleged shortcomings in emergency medical care.
According to reports circulating online, Eraga was involved in a d0mestic accident and sought help before being taken to the hospital for treatment. It was alleged that he lost a substantial amount of blood and received three pints of blood through transfusion.
Social media users further claimed that the platelets required for his treatment were unavailable at the time.
According to the accounts, the hospital’s blood bank was expected to open at 6 a.m., but Eraga reportedly suffered multiple cardiac arrests and d!ed around 4 a.m. before the needed platelets could be obtained. These claims have not been independently verified.
The incident has generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians describing the d3ath as preventable and calling for improvements in emergency healthcare services across the country.
