SIX K!LLED, SEVERAL !NJURED AS IED EXPL0DES ON ZAMFARA ROAD

Reports indicate that the tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning when a commercial vehicle conveying passengers reportedly ran over the explosive device planted along the road.

Local sources said the explosion caused severe damage to the vehicle and left multiple passengers dead at the scene, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Residents of the area alleged that the explosive device was planted by suspected bandits operating within the region, as insecurity and armed attacks continue to affect several communities across Zamfara State.

The injured victims were reportedly rushed to a primary healthcare centre in Bagega for emergency treatment. Reports say those injured include men, a woman, and a child.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said security operatives and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit were immediately deployed to the area following the explosion.

According to the police, the EOD team conducted security sweeps along the affected route to detect and neutralize any additional explosive devices in order to prevent further casualties.

Police authorities also stated that normalcy has since been restored in the area, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The Bagega-Anka road has over the years remained one of the most dangerous routes in Zamfara State due to recurring attacks linked to armed bandits and criminal groups operating within the area.

Security analysts say the increasing use of improvised explosive devices by criminal elements marks a dangerous escalation in the insecurity challenges affecting parts of northern Nigeria.

The latest explosion has once again raised concerns among residents over safety on major roads across Zamfara, with many calling for stronger military operations and improved security presence in vulnerable communities.
