Natasha Dumps PDP for NDC Ahead of 2027 Polls

Hon. Natasha Osawaru-Idibia, wife of music superstar Innocent “2Baba” Idibia and lawmaker representing Egor Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The move, announced on Thursday, May 7, 2026, comes as part of a broader wave of defections that also includes the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Charity Aiguobarueghian, and other prominent figures from Edo and Gombe States.

Osawaru-Idibia was formally received into the NDC at the party’s headquarters in Abuja by its national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, where she received her membership card. She was joined by high-profile figures including former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso during the visit.

Speaking after her defection, the Edo lawmaker expressed strong confidence in the emerging party.

“It has not been easy, but we thank God that we still have a leader like Senator Dickson. I believe very soon, the NDC will take over the country,” she said.

Another account of her remarks noted: “It has not been easy at all.”

Osawaru-Idibia, who is seeking a second term as representative for Egor Constituency, signaled her commitment to the NDC platform with a campaign-style play on words interpreting the party acronym as “Natasha Don Come.”

The defections represent a notable boost for the NDC as it positions itself for the 2027 general elections, drawing experienced lawmakers and public figures disillusioned with the PDP. Senator Dickson urged new members to remain steadfast in building the party.
