“You Can’t Save $1,000 a Month as a Nigerian in Canada” — Canada-Based Man Claims

A Canada-based Nigerian man has shared his candid experiences about the realities faced by many Nigerians living in Canada.
During a live session, the man claimed that a high percentage of Nigerians and other Africans in Canada are struggling financially.
He explained that the high cost of living, combined with relatively modest salaries in many sectors, makes it extremely difficult for most immigrants to get ahead.
According to him, it is almost impossible for the average Nigerian in Canada to save up to $1,000 unless they are among the few who run successful businesses or have high-paying specialized jobs.
He noted that many are living paycheck to paycheck, with rent, bills, and daily expenses consuming most of their income.
He further stated that the Canadian government supports some immigrants through social assistance programs, providing between $700 and $800 monthly to help with feeding and basic needs. .
The man advised Nigerians planning to move to Canada to come with realistic expectations, strong financial plans, and preferably in-demand skills or business ideas. He stressed that while Canada offers better opportunities and security than many places, it is not the “land of milk and honey” many believe it to be, and success often requires hard work, patience, and adaptability.
