Akume, Alia Differ On Automatic Tickets After Peace Talks

A peace and reconciliation meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State ended in controversy on Sunday, as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and Governor Hyacinth Alia offered conflicting accounts of the resolutions reached.

The meeting, held at the Government House in Makurdi and convened in line with a directive of President Bola Tinubu, was intended to resolve the lingering leadership crisis within the party in the state.

However, disagreements emerged over claims of an “automatic ticket” arrangement for elected APC officeholders, with both leaders presenting divergent interpretations of what was agreed.

Answering questions from journalists after the meeting, the SGF said that peace was the paramount purpose of the meeting.

He added that part of the resolution was an automatic ticket for all the elective officers, including the governor, all members of the national and state assemblies.

The SGF further said that the governor had apologised for the crisis caused in the party in the state.

“Where we went wrong, we want to get back, and we want everybody to have a place; we want inclusiveness in this party.
