Makinde’s camp rejects Appeal Court verdict, seeks redress at Supreme Court
The leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated with the faction led by former minister Tanimu Turaki and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announcing plans to challenge a recent Court of Appeal ruling at the Supreme Court. The Court of Appeal had nullified the PDP’s national convention held in November 2025, citing non-compliance with constitutional provisions and the party’s own guidelines .
The Turaki-led faction, in a statement, expressed concern that implementing the judgment would cause significant hardship for party members and has instructed its lawyers to appeal the decision at the Supreme Court. The faction believes the apex court will resolve the dispute in the interest of democracy .
The Court of Appeal’s ruling has created tension within the party, with some members calling for reconciliation and others vowing to continue the legal battle. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged party members to put aside their differences and work towards rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 general elections .
