Mr President, You May Be Happy With Wike Now, but the End Will Not Be Palatable—Bode George
According to a report by Vanguard, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olabode George, has called on President Bola Tinubu to rein in the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his conduct during Saturday’s election in Abuja.
George described Wike’s actions as embarrassing and inconsistent with democratic principles. He was reacting to a viral video in which the FCT Minister was seen speaking to supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a polling unit, telling them that after casting their votes, they should “leave the rest” to him.
The PDP chieftain stated that Wike is no longer a member of the party and argued that such behaviour could not occur without the knowledge or tacit support of the Presidency. He also criticised the roles of the Presidency, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Judiciary, accusing them of enabling what he described as excesses.
He said, “Wike’s conduct during Saturday’s election in Abuja was a complete embarrassment to the good people of this country.”
Referring to President Tinubu, he added, “Mr. President, when the situation deteriorates, you will bear the responsibility alone. You may be pleased now with how Wike is confronting your so-called opponents and weakening opposition parties, but the end will not be palatable.”
George warned that Nigeria’s political stability should not be taken for granted, drawing parallels with past republics that collapsed amid political crises. He maintained that Nigeria’s democratic future is larger than any individual or institution and cautioned against actions that could undermine public confidence in governance.
