Fuji legend Kwam 1 (Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Marshall) has formally announced he’ll contest the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland stool, insisting his royal pedigree gives him a legitimate shot .
– He says he’s a “bonafide son” of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, tracing his ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage of Agunsebi Quarters .
– The musician, born 3 March 1957, points to over five decades of promoting Ijebu, Yoruba and Nigerian culture, plus national honours such as the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and traditional titles like Mayegun of Yorubaland and Olori Omo‑Oba .
– In a letter dated 3 December 2025 to the Fusengbuwa ruling house, he pledged to abide by Ijebu customary law and Ogun State chieftaincy statutes .
Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Abdul‑Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, confirmed received of the letter and urged family members at home and abroad to stay calm, noting that a response was sent within two hours . He expressed confidence that, “In Sha Allah, we shall all have cause to rejoice… within a matter of weeks”
The succession process, guided by the rotational arrangement among the ruling houses, is expected to conclude peacefully in the coming weeks .
