Kwara State authorities have released the names of the 38 worshippers taken hostile by bandits in the Eruku church raid; all of the identified victims are Yoruba .

The published list includes people such as Felicia Ige (64), Timileyin Joshua (22), Elizabeth Rotimi (27), Samuel Ayodele (34) and several others, with the youngest victim being seven years old and the oldest 64 .

The release has sparked a heated debate: some locals argue that the fact that the abductees are Yoruba proves that Kwara belongs to Yorubaland, while others point out that the Emir of Ilorin—who hails from Sokoto—and certain Imams (for example, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, described as Fulani, and the Chief Imam of Offa, said to be from Mali) are not ethnically Yoruba and have remained silent on the incident .
