LETTER OF RECOGNITION AND STRONG RECOMMENDATION OF DR. TONYE CLINTON JAJA, ESQ. FOR HIS SELFLESS CONTRIBUTIONS TO DEMOCRACY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE IN RIVERS STATE
We, the members of Rivers Progressive Youths Alliance, a non-partisan coalition of young professionals, students, entrepreneurs and community leaders across the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State, write this open letter to bring to Your Excellency’s attention the outstanding patriotism, courage and sacrifice demonstrated by one of our own, Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja, Esq., in defence of constitutional democracy and the rule of law in our dear State.
Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja, a distinguished legal practitioner, scholar and pro-democracy advocate, has consistently placed the interest of Rivers State and Nigeria above personal comfort. Of particular note is his current suit before the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in Abuja, wherein he is courageously challenging illegal declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State without strict compliance with the clear provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Dr. Jaja’s suit seeks to protect the sovereignty of the Rivers State Elected Executive Governor, House of Assembly, the independence of the judiciary, and the democratic rights of over seven million Rivers people. It is a bold reminder that power belongs to the people and must be exercised strictly according to law.
Beyond this landmark case, Dr. Jaja has, over the years:
Consistently advocated for transparency, accountability and due process in governance; He has consistently and constantly used his legal expertise to educate youths and citizens on their constitutional rights; He has equally Promoted peaceful resolution of political conflicts through constitutional means;
Mentored hundreds of young lawyers and activists on the imperatives of rule of law; and Remained steadfast even in the face of intimidation, choosing principle over convenience.
Your Excellency, at a time when many choose silence out of fear or favour, Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja has chosen the lonely but honourable path of defending our Constitution and our democracy. His actions align perfectly with your administration’s commitment to due process, respect for institutions and people-oriented governance.
We, the undersigned youths of Rivers State, therefore:
Commend Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja, Esq. for his patriotism and fearlessness; We gladly and strongly recommend him to Your Excellency for due recognition or any role that will enable him to contribute more directly to the consolidation of good governance in Rivers State;
We humbly urge Your Excellency to continue to uphold the rule of law and resist any extra-constitutional pressures that may undermine our democracy; and we assure Your Excellency of our unwavering support as you steer Rivers State toward peace, progress and prosperity under the rule of law.
We are confident that history will place Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja on the right side, alongside those who stood firm when our democracy was tested.
