Bandits launch fresh  attack , kidnap 5 women including nursing mothers

Armed bandits have launched a fresh attack on Yan Kwada Village in the Farun Ruwa community of Shanono local government area of Kano State, abducting five women.

The attackers arrived in large numbers, armed with dangerous weapons, and raided several homes before whisking away the victims.

“They came as usual, shooting sporadically and breaking into houses. They abducted five women, including nursing mothers,” a source who spoke with Daily Trust said.

He, however, added that two of the abducted women have returned, while three others remain in captivity.

This latest incident has intensified fears across rural communities in Kano State, particularly those bordering Katsina State.

Several local governments in Katsina recently signed controversial peace pacts with bandit groups — a move some warn may be pushing criminal elements into neighboring Kano.

Security experts and community leaders are urging the Kano State Government to urgently coordinate with Katsina authorities to mitigate the spillover effects of these peace deals.

“Kano must reinforce its frontline security or risk destabilisation from Katsina’s peace arrangements,” one source warned.

The attack comes barely a week after a joint military operation reportedly killed 19 bandits in the area.

Despite these efforts, residents of Faruruwa and surrounding villages continue to live in fear, with many abandoning their homes and seeking refuge in Faruruwa town or relocating to urban centers for safety.
