NAFDAC Warns Public About Counterfeit Cialis Tablets in Nigeria
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert over the circulation of counterfeit Cialis 20mg tablets in Nigeria.
The agency said the fake products were identified during routine market surveillance by field representatives of Chi Pharmaceutical Ltd, the Marketing Authorisation Holder for Cialis 20mg (NRN: 04-5196). The discovery was made in Abuja, where the counterfeit tablets were reportedly being sold openly.
According to NAFDAC, the suspicious product differs from the genuine packaging and quality of authentic Cialis 20mg, which contains tadalafil and is prescribed for erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension. While the original product retails for about ₦55,000 per pack, the counterfeit version has been found at prices as low as ₦8,000 per pack.
NAFDAC urged healthcare providers and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected counterfeit or substandard medicines to the nearest NAFDAC office. Reports can also be made via 0800-162-3322 or emailed to sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
