Bayero University Leads Green Revolution with Launch of Solar-Powered Tricycles

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has taken a bold step toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation with the official commissioning of ten solar-powered tricycles for use across its campuses.

At the unveiling ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, hailed the initiative as a groundbreaking move that reinforces the University’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and renewable energy adoption.

According to him, the eco-friendly project is in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and received full backing from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

“Today, we are proud to receive ten solar tricycles that will operate within the university to ease transportation challenges for students and staff,” Prof. Musa said. “We are also expecting ten more soon, which will bring our total fleet; including eight petrol-powered tricycles; to twenty-eight.”

He noted that the solar tricycles would not only enhance mobility but also help reduce BUK’s carbon footprint, calling on users to treat them as a shared asset for the entire university community.

The commissioning was attended by key officials including Prof. Aliyu Muazu and Prof. Amina Mustapha (Deputy Vice Chancellors), Malam Haruna Aliyu (Registrar), Malam Rabi’u Dauda (Bursar), and Dr. Kabiru Dahiru Abbas (University Librarian).
