Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has ignited a storm of reactions on social media after sharing a cryptic post that many fans believe was subtly directed at Victor Osimhen

The post came just days after a tense moment during Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Benin Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers — a match where Osimhen shone brightly with a hat-trick, but simmering tension appeared to ripple through the team.

Nwabali, who has faced growing criticism over recent performances, was visibly agitated during the match and was seen clashing with teammates Wilfred Ndidi and Calvin Bassey. At one point, he appeared to shove Ndidi after the midfielder attempted to calm him during a scuffle with a Benin player. Cameras also caught him exchanging heated words with Bassey as the team headed to the tunnel at halftime.

Amid speculation of unrest, the Chippa United goalkeeper later took to Instagram, posting a message that read:

The reference to “VO9” — Osimhen’s jersey number — has fueled suspicions that the post was aimed at the Napoli striker, hinting at an underlying rift in the Super Eagles camp.

Nwabali has been under scrutiny since Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Lesotho, where fans criticised his composure and demanded his replacement. Despite the backlash, head coach Eric Chelle kept faith in him, starting the goalkeeper again against Benin Republic just four days later.

As of now, Nwabali has not provided any clarification on the post, while Osimhen has maintained silence — leaving fans and pundits to decode the true meaning behind the goalkeeper’s message.
