EU Mission Rescues Crew of Missile-Struck Cargo Ship in Gulf of Aden

Operation Aspides, the EU’s maritime mission in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, has confirmed the rescue of all 19 crewmembers from the Dutch-flagged cargo ship M/V Minervagracht after it was hit by a Houthi-fired missile off Yemen.

According to EUNAVFOR Aspides, the vessel was struck on Monday by an anti-ship ballistic missile launched by Iranian-backed Houthi forces. The attack set the ship ablaze and left it adrift about 128 nautical miles southeast of Yemen.

Eighteen crewmembers, mainly Russians, Ukrainians, Filipinos, and Sri Lankans, were taken aboard EU naval vessels, while one seriously injured sailor was evacuated to Djibouti for medical treatment. Naval forces continue to monitor the burning Minervagracht as concerns grow over escalating threats to vital shipping routes in the region.
