Wike Hits Back at Tambuwal, Accuses Him and Atiku of Betrayal
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has responded forcefully to Aminu Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto.
On Thursday, Wike appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today program.
“What do you mean by leadership and friendship? You can’t discuss leadership while ignoring the individual,” Wike stated.
He claimed that Tambuwal and Atiku Abubakar were politically inconsistent.
He added, “These are individuals who have consistently demonstrated inconsistency. If you’re a habitual betrayer, what do you expect?”
Wike claimed that Tambuwal was aiming for a Senate position if Atiku secured the presidency. He mentioned that both individuals often changed political parties to serve their personal interests.
Earlier in September, Tambuwal appeared on the same program and expressed his loyalty to Atiku instead of Wike.
He expressed a preference for supporting Atiku over Nyesom Wike in terms of national and public leadership.
Tambuwal emphasized that his decisions were driven by principles of governance rather than personal relationships.
He explained that his disagreements with leaders, such as Goodluck Jonathan, were based on ideological differences.
Tambuwal stated, “It’s a collaboration and not something difficult. It’s about being altruistic rather than personal. We had disagreements on principle regarding the approach and direction things were taking.”
The disagreement between Wike and prominent PDP members originated in 2023, when Wike criticized Atiku, Tambuwal, and Bukola Saraki for neglecting zoning commitments that would have potentially benefited the South.
Wike also reminded viewers that he previously supported Tambuwal’s bid for Speaker of the House of Representatives, going against the party’s preference.
However, Tambuwal emphasized that political disagreements should not be confused with personal hostility.
He said, “If Atiku enters here and Wike asks for my phone, I will hand it to him as a personal friend.”
