Nigerian troops eliminate top terror!st commanders, dozens of fighters in one week.

According to vanguard, troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency, eliminating top Boko Haram commanders and dozens of fighters in a series of counter-insurgency operations carried out across Borno and Yobe States within the last week.

A credible military source said that the operations were conducted between August 21 and August 23 by ground troops with vital support from the Air Component. The operations, the source explained, were targeted at identified terrorist enclaves and movement routes within the North-East corridor.

According to the source, “the operations also led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition and several motorcycles from the insurgents.” Items recovered include AK-47 rifles, general-purpose machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) which were intended for coordinated attacks on civilian communities and security posts.

The offensive, which was carried out in locations such as Konduga, Bama, and parts of Geidam, neutralized several high-profile Boko Haram commanders who have been responsible for orchestrating ambushes, kidnappings, and raids in the troubled region. Intelligence reports indicate that the death of these commanders has created confusion within terrorist ranks, forcing surviving fighters to scatter deeper into the Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad fringes.

Residents in some of the affected communities confirmed increased military presence and air patrols in recent days, noting that the clampdown has significantly reduced insurgent movements along major highways.

Military analysts believe the operation underscores OPHK’s renewed momentum under the current leadership of the Armed Forces, as troops intensify efforts to restore peace and stability in the North-East. Security sources also hinted at ongoing pursuit operations to prevent regrouping by fleeing terrorists.

The North-East has endured over a decade of insurgency, leading to thousands of deaths and displacement of millions. However, recent sustained offensives suggest that the military is gaining the upper hand against Boko Haram and its splinter groups.
