Palestinians Flee Gaza City as Israel Announces First Phase of Assault

According to city officials, many Palestinians are still fleeing Gaza City following the initiation of a planned ground offensive by the Israeli military.

Israeli troops have secured a foothold on the city’s outskirts, inhabited by over a million Palestinians, following several days of heavy bombing and artillery fire.

This led UN Secretary General António Guterres to once again call for an immediate ceasefire, emphasizing the need “to prevent the inevitable death and destruction” that an assault would bring.

Israel aims to convey that it is moving forward with its plan to take control of all Gaza City, despite facing international criticism.
