Governor Approves Suspension of Three Top Officials Following Assembly Resolution

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has approved the suspension of three public officials in line with a resolution earlier passed by the Benue State House of Assembly.

The suspended officials include the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri; the Chairperson of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs. Grace Adagba; and the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Mr. Michael Uper. Each is to serve a one-month suspension, effective immediately.

This development follows an earlier standoff between the executive and legislative arms over the delay in implementing the resolution.

In a statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia affirmed the Assembly’s decision and reiterated his commitment to the rule of law, due process, and separation of powers.

He praised the lawmakers for fulfilling their constitutional duties and reassured citizens of his administration’s focus on transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The governor also directed the affected institutions to maintain uninterrupted service delivery during the suspension period and called on Benue residents to continue supporting efforts to build a functional and inclusive state.
