Police breaks silence over viral video of officers sharing cash
The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that disciplinary action is being taken against five officers filmed in a viral video allegedly assisting a politician in distributing cash to members of the public.
Police spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement, said the incident occurred on July 10, 2025, after a ceremony at the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House.
He clarified that the video was unrelated to the re-run and by-elections conducted in the state on August 16.
“The investigation revealed that the officers were deployed for security at the event, during which they were regrettably seen engaging in unprofessional conduct,” Kiyawa said.
He assured that appropriate disciplinary measures are underway against the erring officers to uphold the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The command remains committed to the highest standards of discipline and ethics while ensuring the trust and confidence of the public,” the statement added.
